Valletta, the Capital of Malta

Valletta, the fantastic city on the island is just a fifteen-minute drive from most of locations in Malta. On completion of the passenger cruise terminal Malta will be able to hold 2,000 passengers in an hour. This shows that the local people in Malta are highly optimistic about the cruise liners and passengers and the top class holidays and vacations. On 28 March 1566, the city of Valletta was founded by the Grandmaster of the Order of Saint John, Jean Parisot de la Valette. Order was one of the long-time rulers of Valletta as well as of the island. After establishing Valletta in Malta order also originated the city of Xiberras in peninsula in 1565. Although the city of Valletta was planned by Francesco Laparelli, but the buildings were made by Gerolamo Cassar. Although the buildings in Valletta are from the age of 16th century, most of them were built during the era of the Knights of St. John of Jerusalem called the Knights of Malta.

Buses are the primary public transport system in Malta and it run through the roads of Valletta as central terminus is just outside the entrance of the city. Some roads in Valletta are totally pedestrian and so the traffic in the city is constrained to a certain level.Some places in Valletta should be visited by anyone who drops in there. They are:

  • Grandmaster's Palace is the house of the Parliament of Malta.

  • The house of the Ministry of Finance is the Auberge D'Aragon.
  • Auberge D'Italie is the house of the Malta Tourism Authority.

  • Auberge De Bavière, the houses of the Ministry of Justice and Home Affairs.
  • Casa Rocca Piccola is the private residence, which is open to the public.
  • Palazzo Francia is the houses of a number of offices and shops.
  • Palazzo Parisio is the house of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
  • Palazzo Castellania is the houses the Ministry of Health, the Elderly and Community Care National Museum of Fine Arts.
